Retro Ad Replay – Battlefield: Bad Company 2’s 11th Anniversary

It’s time for another Retro Ad Replay article! This is the series where we head backwards in time to reminisce and celebrate the anniversary of some of the most significant moments in gaming. If you find yourself wanting more content like this, be sure to visit Mandatory.com.

In this March 2 edition of Retro Ad Replay, we’re taking a trip back 11 years to when Battlefield: Bad Company 2 first launched on PC, PS3, and Xbox 360. That’s March 2, 2010. Developed by DICE and published by EA, Bad Company 2 pushed the envelope even further when it came to multiplayer first-person shooters. With impressive destruction across massive maps, populated by high player counts and vehicles, BC2 went toe-to-toe with the titan that is Modern Warfare 2.

GameRevolution awarded The Sims an 8/10 in our review, praising the “outstanding multiplayer offerings,” how it “stands apart from the online FPS pack,” and “looks and sounds great.”

Here’s a snippet from the GR review:

It’s a good sign that the only criticism I can level at BAD COMPANY 2’s multiplayer content is that there’s not more of it. Rush and Conquest each has five maps apiece, but other than the minor variation of squad rush and squad deathmatch, there’s no other multiplayer offerings. Luckily, the play modes that are there are so good that I hardly noticed or cared about the lack of other play options.

BATTLEFIELD: BAD COMPANY 2 is the Pepsi to MODERN WARFARE 2’s Coke. They’ll both scratch the same itch, but not in the same way. As a single-player experience, BAD COMPANY 2 is mostly forgettable, which is a disappointment considering how entertaining the first game’s campaign was. Thankfully the multiplayer features are so polished and well designed that BC2’s shortcomings won’t matter in the slightest. BATTLEFIELD: BAD COMPANY 2 provides an alternative FPS diet of raw battle tactics in an easy-to-digest structure.
