Is Attack of the Meth Gator Real and a True Story?

Attack of the Meth Gator is making headlines, after the team at film distributor The Asylum announced their mockbuster following the successful release of Universal Pictures blockbuster Cocaine Bear. As the latter was inspired by a true story, many are wondering if the events set to take place in Attack of the Meth Gator are real, or also based in truth. Here’s what we know.

Is Attack of the Meth Gator a real movie?

Attack of the Meth Gator is a real movie. It comes from the producers behind the Sharknado franchise, who confirmed its legitimacy on social media after being questioned about whether or not the film announcement on February 24, 2023, was simply part of a prank, playing off of the hype surrounding Cocaine Bear.

Of course, we are sure that the second part of their tweet was simply a joke, and the creatives at The Asylum aren’t actually “pumping the meth into Florida’s fresh water reserves.”

Is Attack of the Meth Gator based on a true story?

Attack of the Meth Gator is not based on a true story, but has been inspired by warnings from Tennessee police given in 2019 to stop flushing meth down toilets, as alligators could eat it and become aggressive. There have, however, been no real reported cases of alligators attacking the public after consuming meth.

After making the post to social media, the Tennessee police department removed the warning, saying that they were simply trying to use humor to raise awareness. They said the use of “meth gator” was for fun, and they had no actual knowledge that such a beast would exist, but that didn’t stop the story from going viral.

Attack of the Meth Gator is scheduled for release in summer 2023, and the cast for the movie has been revealed.
