Sea of Thieves 2: Release Date Rumors and Will There Be a Sequel?

Sea of Thieves is a beloved Xbox title that allows you to play as a pirate and have your friends be your crew on the high seas. It’s been five years since the title was first released, and some are expecting a sequel soon. However, it has no sign of slowing down. This has fans wondering if there’s going to be a Sea of Thieves 2 release date anytime soon.

What are the Sea of Thieves 2 release date rumors?

Both bad and good news for fans of the game: there won’t be a Sea of Thieves 2 release date anytime soon, but that doesn’t mean it’s going away. Speaking with Xbox Wire, Rare Creative Director Mike Chapman stated:

“I think 10 years of Sea of Thieves will feel like a long time–but also, we’ll blink and be there. And I think we’ll have unfinished business when we get to that point”

This statement implies that Rare is concentrating development on expanding the content in Sea of Thieves, meaning it likely won’t be working on a sequel. We’ve seen similar trends with other live service games. For example, Bungie continues to update Destiny 2 with expansions instead of dividing the player base yet again by releasing Destiny 3.

In other gaming news, Peppa Pig: World Adventure has been released to fans’ happiness, and we’ve taken a look at which Steam Deck you should buy.
