What is Wordle?
Wordle is a web-based word puzzle game that was created by former Reddit software engineer Josh Wardle. After developing a prototype of the popular game in 2013, Wardle eventually returned to the project in 2021, with it becoming a huge hit during the pandemic. An online sensation, it wasn’t long before the New York Times snapped it up for a seven-figure sum. Ironically enough, the game was originally inspired by NYT’s own Spelling Bee game.
How to play Wordle via NYT
Wordle can be played via the NYT site, though users will need a subscription to the newspaper. Save for a moderate makeover, the game more-or-less looks exactly the same as it did previously before NYT acquired it.
Just like before, players have six guesses to figure out a five-letter word. Players input a word per turn, with the corresponding tile revealing itself if that guess was correct. If players fail to guess the word, they lose their streak.
