Xbox Confirms Activision Titles Won’t Come to Game Pass Right Away

Now that the deal between Microsoft and Activision Blizzard has finally gone through, many will be curious as to whether games like Call of Duty will be coming to Game Pass. Sadly, this doesn’t appear to be the case. At least not yet.

Spencer agrees with Activision

In the latest Xbox podcast, Phil Spencer spoke about what the future holds now that Microsoft has acquired the Overwatch and World of Warcraft developer. It turns out that there’s no immediate plan to make Activision Blizzard titles available on Xbox Game Pass.

He adds that the deal took so long that there was a lot of “uncertainty in that process” up until close to the merger being finalized. As a result, Microsoft was unable to work with Activision Blizzard straightaway to get its back catalog onto the Xbox subscription service.

The specifics of this topic begin around the 11:45 mark in the video below.

However, Spencer also says that Activision did state that 2024 could be when games may start appearing on Game Pass, which he agrees with. This suggests that some of the aforementioned releases, as well as others, could arrive on the platform soon, though there’s no concrete date yet.

When Microsoft bought out Bethesda in 2021, Spencer says above that the company was able to put out plenty of the Skyrim and Fallout studio’s games on Game Pass. Titles both developed and published by Bethesda were quickly made available not long after the acquisition.

As such, many would have been hoping that the likes of Call of Duty would come to Game Pass sooner rather than later. However, even though Microsoft now owns Activision Blizzard, there’s still a bit of work to do before that can become a reality.
