Risk of Rain Returns Cross-Play Cross-Progression

Does Risk of Rain Returns Have Cross-Play and Cross-Platform Progression?

Risk of Rain Returns was released on Nintendo Switch and PC, and players are wondering if it supports cross-play and cross-progression. Support for these features is becoming increasingly common, and can be make or break for some potential purchasers. We’ll take a look at whether Risk of Rain Returns has cross-platform support or not below.

Does Risk of Rain Returns have cross-play multiplayer?

Risk of Rain Returns isn’t cross-play compatible. PC players can only play with other PC players, and the same goes for those on Switch. However, there is a bit of consolation in that there is local co-op, which is a relative rarity these days.

For those unfamiliar with the term, cross-play multiplayer is when gamers on different gaming platforms or devices can play with or against each other at the same time. So, whether you’re on a PC, console, or mobile, you can connect with others regardless of device. It breaks down the barriers between platforms, allowing a larger pool of players to interact and enjoy games together, irrespective of the hardware they’re using.

Does it have cross-platform progression?

Risk of Rain also doesn’t support cross-platform progression. There’s no way to tie the Steam and Switch versions together, and there’s no word whether it’ll be added in the future.

If you’ve never played a game with cross-platform progression, it’s is like having a universal save game for your favorite titles. Play on your PC, then continue the same game on your phone while riding the bus, and finish up on your console at home. Your progress, unlocks, and loot are kept safe and sound in the cloud, ready for you to pick up wherever you left off, on whatever device you fancy. Again, there’s yet to be word whether this feature will be added in the future.
