Finding the best SMG in MW3 is tricky because we’re spoiled for choice. Not only does the game add 6 new SMGS, but you can carry forward 12 more from MW2. However, instead of trying to compare 18 weapons, our Modern Warfare 3 SMG tier list will focus on just the new guns.
MW3 SMG Tier List
There are six new SMGs included in Modern Warfare 3:
- AMR9
- Rival-9
- Striker
- Striker 9
- WSP Swarm
- WSP-9
Here’s how they rank on our Modern Warfare 3 SMG tier list:
S Tier – Best Modern Warfare 3 SMG: Striker
The Striker is a beast at close-medium range and has excellent damage output. What makes this gun so great, though, is its versatility. With the right attachments, you can tune it for hyper-mobility or bring it close to AR specs with a long barrel. With performance this good, the Striker is on the radar for a nerf, so enjoy it while it lasts.
A Tier – Rival-9
The Rival-9 doesn’t have quite the versatility that the Striker does, but it excels in the role of a traditional SMG. If you love getting in close and hosing down rooms while staying light on your feet, this is an excellent choice. However, some players will find this SMG’s range leaves something to be desired, which knocks it down a tier on our list.
B Tier – AMR9
The AMR9 is the gun to choose if you’re wondering if you’d rather have an SMG or AR. However, it leans toward the latter category. So, while it’s a versatile gun, it doesn’t perform as well in the SMG role as the two guns above it on our list.
C Tier – Striker 9
The Striker 9 handles a lot like its bigger brother but trades .45 ACP for 9mm. As a result, you’ll get a reduction in recoil but also lower damage output. However, the Striker is already a well-balanced gun, so this SMG feels redundant in comparison.
D Tier – WSP-9
It takes some finesse to get the best out of the WSP-9. It prioritizes damage over rate of fire, which makes it an oddball of an SMG, but we’ll bet some players will fall in love with it. It’s one of the more controllable SMGs, so if accuracy is what you’re looking for, then give this gun a try.
F Tier – WSP Swarm
If you’re looking for the opposite of the WSP-9, give the WSP Swarm a go. It’s got one of the higher fire rates in the category and excels at ultra-close-range fights. However, outside of face-to-face action, it’s outpaced by every other SMG on our list. However, you’ll want to keep an eye on it in case it gets buffed.
